I have come across this interesting chart from greenpages the other day. It is quite amazing what new technology can do. Perhaps if it wasn’t for climate change we would still be stuck with the old fashioned incandescent globes and fluorescent tubes.
LEDs have become truly innovative and are making things possible that were previously not possible. They are slowly spreading into every industry as they can offer so much more due to their flexibility (and I don’t mean because they can be so small or because they are used in flexible LED strips).
LEDs are not just becoming suitable as a replacement for the older technologies but are also becoming an excellent medium for designers and artists to use to create myriads of applications.
Down lights, spot lights and LED tubes are not the only lighting improvements but in more and more cases we are seeing pendant lights and architectural lights and fittings and even sculptures (for a lack of a better word) appearing as lighting solutions.
So keep your eyes open because there are unimaginable lighting solutions such as organic LEDs and flexilights (that are as thin as paper and can be wrapped around around objects) being introduced. Only your imagination is the limit what will be possible.
In the mean time take a look at the chart below and see how LED lights are starting to make an impact to reducing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.
